As California’s population ages and grows, The California Wellness Foundation is focused on growing and diversifying the state’s health care workforce. Fenton Communications directs the public education campaign with this goal and partnered with idea ink to build Health Jobs Start Here, a campaign designed to introduce young adults to health care job options–many of which require little training and are in high demand.
Idea
For the online component of this campaign, Health Jobs Start Here offers visitors two pathways–one for those already interested in a health job and another for the undecided. To present viable health jobs to the undecided, visitors can take an optional quiz that narrows the choices based on training programs, commute distance, and tolerance for blood and needles. The quiz then plots matching choices on an interactive map–an important feature for this audience that stressed the need for training and job options that are close to home.
Impact
With quality content and effective advertising, HealthJobsStartHere.com emerged on the first Google search engine results page and received 2.5 million pageviews in the first 6 months. The Web site’s success led to a partnership with a premiere job search Web site. Most importantly, the Web site moved the target audience. In a recent user survey one respondent said, "It is very well organized, and I love the system your site uses. This site helped me decide on my major. This site is great!"
